So. Another year another version of Autocad... I understand Autocad needs to make cash, but if they insist on releasing a new version every single year, why do they initially charge $4k for each seat? If they can do a $4k for each release, and $600 for releases after that, why can't they sell it for $1000 for each release and keep it there? No subscription fees for updates. I'd have my company allot $1k or 1.5K for each release yearly. Hell... people complain about buying office and windows for 600 and 400 respectively...
Let's look at it this way... Autocad is old... It is essentially a 2D program with some very crude 3D capabilities... It is a program that everyone should be able to purchase. From 1 man firms to 1000 man firms. Their dwg file should universal, because anyone worth anything will use Autocad to communicate their building designs. Autocad has other software, like Revit, Inventor, ACAD Building systems... and they all cost similar to Autocad, even though they have more functions and generally incorporate Autocad as their base engine.
I am tired of Autodesk. I realize there is a major pirate world out there that uses their software and this argument could be made for any software... Many people illegally pirate Autocad and other Autodesk software because they don't think it is worth the price of admission. To pay $4k to be able to draw fancy lines is ridiculous. To pay $1K is also, but it is $3k less ridiculous and 300 times more afforadable... What losers.
